Larry Lynn Mundt, 73, of Papillion, NE, died February 13, 2023, at his home.
Larry was born July 16, 1949, in Alliance, NE, to Raymond and Rosalie (Simpson) Mundt. Larry grew up in Berea, NE, on the family farm with one brother and two sisters. He attended country school in Berea and loved playing town baseball with his grandfather, father, brother, uncles, and cousins. He also enjoyed the winters when his father would flood one of their garden areas for he and his brother to play ice hockey. He graduated from Alliance High School in 1967. He attended college at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. After graduating from UNL in 1971, he moved back to Berea, NE, to help his parents on the family farm where they grew wheat, potatoes, corn, and beets.
On January 3, 1974, he married Cheri Waynar, his wife of 49 years, in Chadron, NE. They settled in Alliance, NE, raising two children. Larry worked as the Office Manager/Accountant at Alliance Tractor & Implement for about 25 years. While living in Alliance, Larry enjoyed golfing, fishing at the Twin Lakes, attending Alliance Bulldog sporting events, playing basketball at the rec center, playing pitch with his extended family, and taking family vacations to the Black Hills and Estes Park.
In November of 1996, Larry and Cheri moved to LaVista, NE. Larry worked at Farm Credit Services America in Lincoln and Omaha for over 15 years where he formed several dear friendships. He was a mentor to many and will always be remembered for his enthusiasm, humor, and walking the aisles in the mornings to greet teammates. He retired from Farm Credit in 2018.
In his retirement years, Larry enjoyed golfing with friends, vacationing in Breckenridge for mountain golfing and kayaking, taking day trips with Cheri to scope out Nebraska's small towns while searching for antiques, watching old westerns, reading, and spending time with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed outdoor time with his granddaughters including picnics, swimming, visits to Vala’s, and playing baseball and volleyball. Larry also cherished taking trips back to western Nebraska to visit friends and his sisters and their families. He never missed an opportunity to beat his sisters in a card game.
For those of you who knew Larry, you understand how much his kind, giving spirit will be missed. Larry always took the time to ask how others were doing and to lend a helping hand. As a father, he taught kindness, respect, and humility each and every day through his actions. He loved a good story and he loved teasing his family and friends with his humor and quick wit. Larry truly treasured relationships with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Cheri, his son Tony Mundt of Omaha, NE, his daughter Kristy and husband Nick Bauer of Seward, NE, his sister Sherry Yost of Wheatland, WY, and his sister Deb and brother-in-law John Hoffman of Alliance, NE.
