Jerry Sprock went home to heaven on April 3, 2023. He lived an active and joyful life, loving others and serving the Lord as a Minister of the Gospel. He battled cancer and heart disease for multiple decades before they contributed to his death at the age of 76. Generous in life and in death, his body was donated to medical studies.
Jerry graduated from Chadron State College in Chadron, Nebraska and went on to Seminary at American Baptist Seminary of the West in Berkeley, CA. His first pastorate was at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Roundup Montana where he served six and a half years. A short pastorate in McCook, Nebraska followed. His final leadership position was in Hays, Kansas where he pastored for 26 years at the First Baptist Church, retiring in August of 2015.
After retirement, he and his wife moved to a small acreage near Salem, MO, a few miles from his daughter Rachel and son-in-law Jeremiah.
He is survived by his wife Nancy, son Andrew (Melissa) Sprock, daughters Rachel (Jeremiah) Privett, Angela (Duane) Freed and six grandchildren Kai, Tate & Aniyah Sprock; Justice, Paxton & Mercy Freed. Sister Mary (Jerry) Green and sister-in-law Liz Sprock along with many other loved ones and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Vincent & Vicki and his brother John.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Salem Community Center @ The Armory in Salem, Missouri (1200 W. Rolla Street) at 10 AM on Saturday July 22nd with a luncheon following. The family would be honored if you would share memories and stories. Those can be emailed to [email protected]. Please also send an RSVP to that email if you plan to attend the memorial service.
Jerry asked that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be collected and divided between ministries in which his children are actively involved: Circles of Grant County (Andrew), Love thy Neighbor-Dent County (Rachel), and a ministry to be determined after Angela is settled into a new community. Donations can be mailed to 1268 Highway N, Salem, MO 65560. Electronic donations can be received via Venmo @Andrew-Sprock1 with "Jerry's Memorial" in the note.
