Ranger Saloman to lead after hours summit tour at Scotts Bluff National Monument

Gering –  Due to heavy rains that have washed out sections of the canal road used to access the Scotts Bluff backcountry, the Backcountry Tour that had been scheduled for Tuesday, June 27th at 6:30 has been cancelled. In its place park ranger Matt Salomon will lead an after hours tour up to the summit of Scotts Bluff.

This tour will showcase the work done by the Civil Works Administration and Civilian Conservation Corps in the monument, as well as explore the geology and paleontology of this important landmark on the Emigrant Trails. The tour will start promptly at the Scotts Bluff National Monument visitor center, located at 190276 Old Oregon Trail in Gering, NE, at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 27th and end at around 8:00 p.m. This tour is FREE, but reservations are required. Please call the Scotts Bluff National Monument visitor center at 308-436-9700 to reserve your spot on this unique tour.
