ALLIANCE, NE: The Alliance Police Department arrested a 24-year-old Alliance woman Wednesday evening following a vehicle pursuit that ended with the discovery of four children inside the vehicle.
At approximately 6:30 p.m. on September 9, officers responded to Dollar General, 1229 West 3rd Street, regarding a reported disturbance.
While officers were investigating, the suspect vehicle returned to the area. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle using emergency lights and verbal commands, but the driver fled. Officers subsequently located the vehicle traveling eastbound on West 3rd Street and attempted a traffic stop. The driver failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated.
The vehicle briefly reached speeds of approximately 55 mph before eventually pulling into a driveway in the 600 block of Sweetwater Avenue. Officers conducted a felony traffic stop and took the driver, identified as Lylian Rose Star, 24 (N/F DOB 01/14/2002), of Alliance, into custody.
Officers observed signs of impairment and conducted a DUI investigation. Star submitted to a chemical test that resulted in a blood alcohol concentration of .176, more than twice Nebraska’s legal limit. During the investigation, Star also admitted to using methamphetamine earlier in the day.
Four children, ages 9, 9, 8, and less than one year old, were found inside the vehicle.
Star also resisted officers while being placed into a patrol vehicle. She was subsequently booked on suspicion of:
Four counts of felony intentional child abuse with no injury
Felony operation of a motor vehicle to avoid arrest
Four counts of transporting a child while intoxicated
DUI, .15 or greater, with one prior conviction
Resisting arrest
Driving while revoked
Willful reckless driving
Unlawful acts relating to drugs
The vehicle was towed and placed in the Alliance Police Department impound lot.
“This incident could have ended very differently,” Alliance Police Chief David Leavitt said. “Driving impaired is dangerous under any circumstances. Fleeing from officers while impaired and with four children inside the vehicle created an unacceptable risk to those children, our officers, and everyone else on the roadway. I am thankful our officers were able to bring this incident to a safe conclusion without anyone being injured.”
