Night Sky Event at Agate Fossil Beds National Monument, August 12, 2025

HARRISON, Neb. - Agate Fossil Beds National Monument plans to host a Perseid Meteor Shower program at the park, Tuesday, August 12, 2025, from 8:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

At 8:30 p.m., the evening schedule is set to begin with star stories of the Perseid meteor shower and the constellations visible during August. Western Nebraska Community College Professor Tom Robinson is scheduled to lead the telescope viewing of the night sky. A park ranger will be on hand with constellation spotting that coordinate with the earlier stories.

Camping chairs or blankets are recommended for this portion of the program. A red filter or regular flashlight is also recommended for visibility during night sky events.

Agate Fossil Beds National Monument is located 34 miles north of Mitchell, Nebraska, or 22 miles south of Harrison, Nebraska on Highway 29 and 3 miles east on River Road.
