Alliance man cited for DUI after fatal crash Saturday in Box Butte County

Nebraska State Patrol continues to investigate a crash that killed a man in Box Butte County on Saturday morning. 

At 6 a.m. Saturday, NSP was alerted to a two-vehicle crash that happened on Highway 385 near Alliance. 

NSP says in a press release that the crash involved a northbound box truck and a southbound Dodge Ram pickup.

The preliminary investigation states that it is believed that the pickup crossed the center line and struck the box truck in the northbound lane. 

The driver of the box truck was identified as 81-year-old Dennis Murphy, of Harrison who was transported to Box Butte General Hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was then transported to Regional West Hospital in Scottsbluff, where he passed away Tuesday evening.

The driver of the pickup, 20-year-old Ethen Gonzalez of Alliance, has been cited for driving under the influence of alcohol and minor in possession of alcohol. The crash remains under investigation.
