Freda Jane Mantooth, 88, of Alliance, Nebraska, passed away on January 12, 2024. She was born on December 14, 1935, in Estancia, New Mexico, to Samuel Willis Beck and Susie Brazel Beck.
Freda was a dedicated and extraordinary educator who touched the lives of many. She began her teaching career on the reservations of Zuni and Church Rock before finishing at Mountainair Public Schools. Her passion for education and her ability to connect with her students made her a beloved teacher.
During her retirement, Freda delved into her family's history, transforming herself into an enthusiastic genealogist. She tirelessly researched and documented her family's lineage, uncovering marriage licenses, property deeds, and countless documents. Freda's dedication to preserving her family history was driven by her desire to ensure that future generations have a strong sense of their ancestry and identity.
In addition to her passion for genealogy, Freda enjoyed quilting and exploring New Mexico's backroads, ghost towns, and old cemeteries. She had a curious spirit and a love for discovering hidden gems and stories.
Freda will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her loving children, Deborah Whitmore, Charley Whitmore, Jackie Anderson, Clyde Mantooth, Jr., grandchildren Damien Willis, Dustin Willis, Cameron Bevan, Robyn Fritze, Josie Mantooth, great-grandchildren Jackson and Charlotte Fritze and a large extended family. She was preceded in death by her father Samuel Willis Beck, mother Susie Brazel Beck, brothers Bill Beck and James Beck, sisters Lillie Mae Henson, Pauline Jantz, Helen Vaughn, and Margaret Bell.
Freda leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and dedication to education and family. Her impact will be felt for generations to come.
