The Panhandle Research and Extension Center issues a weekly update about how the crops are looking this week and what the water usage is estimated at. Gary Stone, Nebraska Extension Educator has an update for the Panhandle this week.
"Crops are starting to look well, crop water use will probably go up this week quite a bit," Stone said. "The weather forecast shows temperatures in the upper 90's to even over a 100 degrees this week, so the crops will definitely be using more water."
Stone says that it is a critical time for all of the plants since most of the crops still need irrigating. Crop water use will vary across the Panhandle due to variations in temperature and precipitation events.
