CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA.  — Two Nebraska State Patrol leaders have graduated from the inaugural multi-state police cohort of the National Criminal Justice Command College (NCJCC) at the University of Virginia.

Captain Andy Ecklund and Lieutenant Toby Czapla were among 32 graduates from 18 state police agencies. Graduation ceremonies were held Thursday in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The NCJCC focuses on leadership, innovation and collaboration to prepare students to meet public safety challenges with a forward-looking, problem-solving mindset. The program involves extensive coursework, which is conducted in a mixture of in-person and remote sessions.

“Captain Ecklund and Lieutenant Czapla have completed a rigorous program designed specifically for leaders of state police agencies,” said Colonel Bryan Waugh, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “This experience will enrich their own professional abilities and will be a tremendous benefit for the teams they lead at the Nebraska State Patrol.”

Captain Ecklund is the Director of Training for the Nebraska State Patrol. Lieutenant Czapla is a leader in the Troop A Patrol Division, stationed in Omaha.

The Hybrid Multi-State Police Command College track of the National Criminal Justice Command College is a distinguished program for mid-to-upper-level law enforcement leaders from across the country. Developed in partnership with state-level police leadership from Virginia State Police, Colorado Highway Patrol, Illinois State Police, Arizona Department of Public Safety, California Highway Patrol, New Jersey State Police and academic leaders, this executive education experience is distinct from other leadership courses in its focus on statewide operations, inter-jurisdictional coordination, policy influence and large-scale command strategy.
