CHADRON, Neb. - The Chadron Police Department recently participated in the “Make it Click” high visibility event this summer, between May 15 and 31, 2026.
Between May 15 and 31, the Chadron Police Department, through grant money provided by the NDOT, increased the number of officers patrolling in the Chadron area. Those officers were able to focus on searching for and enforcing seatbelt and passenger restraint violations. The event was a success in that there were 117 total contacts made with the following outcome:
31 warnings for speed, four citations for speed, 11 warnings for headlight/tail light violations, two citations for improper or unused seatbelts, five warnings for failure to signal, multiple warrant arrests and more.
The Chadron Police Department conducted a survey by observing 100 passengers before and after the enforcement period. Before the enforcement period, officers observed 66 of the 100 passengers to be wearing a seatbelt and 34 not. After the enforcement period, officers observed 39 of the passengers to be wearing a seatbelt and 61 not.
“Seat belts - when used - reduce the risk of fatal injury to front-seat passenger car occupants by 45 percent and light truck occupants by 60 percent.”
