CUSTER, S.D. — Jewel Cave National Monument invites the public to a free Native American Heritage Day event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at the monument’s visitor center. The event will feature music, dance and storytelling in recognition of Native American Heritage Month.
Performers include hoop dancer Jasmine Bell, singer Sequoia Crosswhite, traditional Native American flute player and storyteller Darren Thompson, jingle dress dancer Jessie Recontre, and storyteller and Lakota Elder Mike Lammers.
“Jewel Cave National Monument appreciates the Native American performers and storytellers participating in this event and sharing their heritage,” said Acting Superintendent Neil Heller. “We also want to thank the Jewel Cave National Monument Cooperating Association, the Black Hills Parks and Forests Association, for their support.”
The event is free. Separate tickets are required for cave tours, and advance reservations are recommended. Food options at the monument are limited. Visitors planning to attend for the full day are encouraged to bring their own lunch and use the picnic tables located near the parking area.
