SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. - Western Nebraska Community College is expanding its Construction Trades program to include a new pathway toward an Associate of Applied Science degree in Construction Technology.

Through hands-on training, students will gain experience in areas including general construction, carpentry, building and facilities maintenance and other construction-related trades. The expanded degree pathway is designed to prepare students for immediate workforce opportunities while also supporting long-term career growth and advancement within the construction industry.

The program features stackable certificate options that allow students to build foundational skills while progressing toward an associate degree. The Basic Construction Technology Certificate can be completed during the first year of study and introduces students to foundational construction principles and practical skills. The Advanced Construction Technology Certificate builds on those skills during the second year of the program.

In addition, the program will be available for high school students in the CollegeNOW! dual-credit program.

“This expansion reflects what we’ve been hearing from schools, students and industry partners across the Panhandle,” WNCC President Greg Dart said. “There is a strong demand for career and technical education opportunities that connect students directly to the workforce while also giving them a head start on college credits. Expanding construction trades into a credit-bearing program helps us better serve the needs of our region and creates another valuable dual credit pathway for area high school students.”
