Shirley K. Underwood, 79, died Saturday, September 12, 2026 at Box Butte General Hospital.
Shirley was born November 12, 1946 in Alliance, Nebraska to Thomas and Blanche (Ustohal) Prochazka.
After graduating from Hemingford High School in 1965, Shirley went on to graduate from Fullen School of Hair Design in Scottsbluff. She married Ted Underwood, April 10, 1967 in Hot Springs, South Dakota.
Her early days were spent working at Daylight Donut, and driving silage truck on the farm.
Shirley was a mother and homemaker. Her children, Lisa, Tom and Crystal, were a focal point of her life. She also cared for her farm animals, from her horses to the many bucket calves over the years. She also had a big place in her heart for her dogs and her children’s pets. In her recent years, she enjoyed the company of her 6 grandchildren as well.
She is survived by her children, Lisa (Chad) Hauger, Tom (Anna) Underwood, and Crystal (Bryan) Buskirk, all of Alliance; and her grandchildren, Lydia Hauger, Colton Buskirk, Jack Underwood, Addy Buskirk, Ben Underwood and Ivy Underwood. She is also survived by her brother, Darold (Liz) Prochazka of Alliance; her brother-in-law, Bernard Kulas of Alliance; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother, Richard Prochazka, her sisters, Eleen Kulas and Dorothy Kulas, and her brother-in-law, Joe Kulas.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 17, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel. Pastor Glenn Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Alliance Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 16, 2026 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Memorials may be given to a charity of the donor’s choice.
