Alliance, NE – The Alliance Public Library is facilitating a community book discussion of Old Jules, the highly acclaimed novel by Mari Sandoz and invites members of the public to attend this special one-time library book club event Wednesday, September 16 from 1-2 p.m.
The book talk will cover the life and times of Jules Sandoz, the father of Mari Sandoz. A Swiss immigrant who settled the upper Niobrara region of Nebraska in the late nineteenth century, Jules Sandoz had a lasting impact on his daughter, Mari, and her writing.
Completed in 1933 and published in 1935, Old Jules is considered Mari Sandoz’s masterpiece. The story of a pioneer in the high plains of Western Nebraska, the novel brought notoriety to the author and the Sandhills.
This literary discussion is affiliated with the Mari Sandoz program, ‘Life and Drive of Mari Sandoz’ the Nebraska Humanities program at the library on September 18 from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
The library has multiple copies available at the front desk for check out.
