Thomas Sidney Thurston was born February 12, 1943 to Clyde Chester Thurston and Florence Laura Anstine at Ashby, Nebraska.&nbsp; Sid grew up ranching and graduated from Hyannis High School in 1960 and was Valedictorian of his class.&nbsp; He won the National High School Bareback Riding Championship 1959-1960.

In November 1962 Sid was named Admiral of the Great Navy of the State of Nebraska for his special trust and confidence in patriotism, valor, fidelity and abilities.&nbsp; He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Colorado State and a Masters of Agriculture and a doctoral degree.

Sid operated the ranch for his family and in 1974 he and his wife, Jean purchased the Chet Thurston Ranch.&nbsp; Sid and Jean continued to ranch very successfully until his going home to the Lord on April 19, 2026.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, April 29 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hyannis Cemetery. He will be laid to rest next to his son, Chisum McClintock Thurston.&nbsp; A Celebration of Life to follow at Kim Abbott’s home, 301 N. Hwy 61, Hyannis, NE.
