LINCOLN, Neb. — Safe driving isn’t a matter of luck. Make your plans now for a sober driver if you’re celebrating St. Patrick’s Day. Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) will be on patrol for impaired driving Friday through Tuesday as part of a nationwide enforcement effort around St. Patrick’s Day.

Troopers will be working overtime across the state to ensure that everyone gets to and from their festivities safely. If you see an impaired or dangerous driver, report it to the NSP Highway Helpline by calling *55.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, drivers from 21 to 34 years old account for the highest percentage of alcohol-impaired drivers involved in fatal traffic crashes around St. Patrick’s Day. Troopers have made 252 DUI arrests so far in 2026.

Troopers will be performing high-visibility patrols throughout the state from Friday, March 13, through Tuesday, March 17, as part of this operation. This effort is made possible thanks in part to a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation – Highway Safety Office.
