Leon Christopher Ackerman, 87, passed away Friday, February 5, 2021 at his rural Alliance home.
He was born June 28, 1933 on the family farm northeast of Alliance to Christopher and Minnie (Fraedrich) Ackerman. Leon served in the U.S. Army from November 1953 to November 1955. Following his honorable discharge he returned to Alliance and continued in his lifelong career of farming.
On March 1, 1957 he was united in marriage to Mary Louise Moran.
He is survived by his children, Sue (Gary) Talkington of Harrisburg, Robert Ackerman and Allan (Alexia) Ackerman of Alliance, his grandchildren, Eric, Christopher, Kole, James, Tallan, Alex, Austin and Allanda, Tanya and Myrranda, and several great-grandchildre. He is also survived by his sister, Edna Mae Covalt of Angora and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his son, William, his granddaughter, Mynette, an infant daughter and his brothers, Dewayne, Harold and Bill Ackerman.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 9 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel with Reverend Richard C. Mueller officiating. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, Feb. 8 from 1-6 p.m. at the funeral home.
