In the 2022 General Election, the majority of Nebraska voters passed a constitutional amendment requiring photo ID in Nebraska elections. In response, the Nebraska Legislature passed LB514 that requires all registered Nebraska voters, with limited exceptions, to present an acceptable form of photo ID when voting in Nebraska elections starting with the May 2024 primary election.
Be prepared for poll workers to request to see your photo ID. Acceptable forms of photo ID include the following:
Nebraska driver’s license
Nebraska state ID
U.S. passport
Military ID
Tribal ID
Hospital, assisted-living facility or nursing home record
Nebraska political subdivision ID (state, county, city, school, etc.)
Nebraska college or university ID (public or private)
The ID must have the voter’s name and photo. IDs can be expired. Nebraskans can get a free state ID from the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). If the person was born in Nebraska and needs a free certified copy of their Nebraska birth certificate to get a free state ID, they can contact the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). A birth certificate is not a valid form of voter ID.

Important Dates:
May 13, 2024 - Last day to vote early in person at the Box Butte County Election office
May 14, 2024 - Election Day and the last day to submit early voting ballots via mail, agent, or secure drop box by no later than 7 p.m.
