Virgil E. Elliott, 89, died Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at his home.
He was born July 26, 1931 in Alliance, Nebraska to Larmer E. and Mable O. (Rodgers) Elliott. Virgil was baptized in 1943 and lived his life following the Lord.
He graduated from Alliance High School in 1951. Following graduation he served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1953 and returned home where he farmed southwest of Hemingford. He married Ruth Burney on November 4, 1954 at the Church of the Nazarene in Hemingford, Nebraska.
Virgil loved to fish and was an avid woodworker. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend.
He is survived by his children, Greg (Teresa) Elliott of Scottsbluff, Terry Elliott of Hemingford, Rodger (Vi) Elliott of Blair, Tracy (Susan) Elliott of Cheyenne, WY; his special niece, Sue (John) Murphy of Arnaudville, LA; and his daughter-in-law, Patty Elliott of York. He is also survived by his 5 grandchildren, Stacey Lamar, Abby Torres, Lisa Singleton, Lauren Elliott and Ross Elliott; and 5 great-grandchildren, Tyrese, Tyler, Kobe, Dakota and Nala. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, 2 infant sons, his brother Richard and his sister, Myrna Woodsmall.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Hemingford. His grandson-in-law Pastor Domingo Torres and Pastor Esther Achi will officiate. Burial with military rites will be in the Hemingford Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home in Hemingford on Monday, November 16, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
