Lucien I. Kicken, age 97, passed away on September 9, 2024. His funeral service will be held at 10am on Monday, September 16, 2024, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Gering with Fr. Steven Deaver and Fr. Mike McDonald as Celebrants. Visitation is Sunday, September 15, from 5-7pm at the church with a Rosary Service being recited at 6pm. It is respectfully requested that in lieu of any flowers, memorials in Lucien’s honor be made in care of his family to be designated at a later time. Lucien was born on August 31, 1927, in Alliance, NE, to Raymond and Margaret Klein Kicken. He attended a one-room school in Sheridan County and graduated from Lakeside High School in 1945.
Lucien served in the Army from 1950 to 1952. A highlight of his service was being stationed in Verdun, France, 40 miles from his father’s birthplace, where he met his French aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He married Margaret McDonald in Mitchell, NE, in 1956. They moved to Scottsbluff in 1964. As a graduate of Southeast Community College-Milford, he was employed at Nebraska Machinery for 30 years as a diesel mechanic, retiring in 1993.
Lucien and Margaret enjoyed square dancing. Their travels included most of the United States, Canada, and numerous trips visiting family and friends in Europe.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years; his sons, Mark (Joanne) of Buckley, WA, David (Joan) of Minatare, NE, and Louis (Amy) of Gering; daughters, Mary (Danny) Tompkins of Scottsbluff, Teresa Jacobs of Lincoln, and Emily (Patrick) Starr of Sioux Falls, SD; brother-in-law John (Sheri) Jensen of Arthur, NE; 16 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his brothers Ray (Enid) and George (Dee); sisters Beverly Jensen and Carol Wears; grandson Zachary Tompkins; and great-grandson Jacob Rosmann.
