Michael L. Mees, 74, died Friday, May 13, 2022 at Box Butte General Hospital.
He was born May 20, 1947 in Fairbury, Nebraska to Merlen John and Corene Nadene (Huss) Mees.
He married Sondra S. Joe on July 5, 1975 in Elko, Nevada. Together they moved from Fairbury to Alliance where he worked for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway. Mike worked for the railroad for more than thirty years before his retirement.
He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, or tinkering around the house. Mike was always a helping hand to anyone who needed it and also cared for many stray animals. He volunteered at the Alliance Senior Center, RSVP, and also helped in delivering Meals on Wheels.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Wade and Julie Mees of Deshler, Nebraska; his step-children and their spouses, Dean and Sue Fox of Fairbury, Donovan and Connie Fox of Fairbury, and Pamela Watson of Greeley, CO. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Karen Roskilly of Fairbury and Carolyn and Donald Junker of Beatrice. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, 2 brothers and his step-daughter.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, May 19, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel. Rev. Dr. Gideon Achi will officiate.
