SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. - Western Nebraska Community College is launching a new Saturday series of welding classes. Intro to Welding begins Oct. 22 and runs eight consecutive Saturdays, ending on Dec. 10.
Intro to Welding is a course that explores common welding processes and theory. Participants are taught skills on safety, equipment setup, process basics, and hands-on skill application.
"Our Intro to Welding class is perfect for people who want to learn the basics of welding," said Russell Pontarolo, WNCC welding instructor.
Participants will develop the skills necessary to produce quality cuts and welds using a variety of methods and techniques.
The Saturday classes will be held 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., with a one-hour lunch break, at the Applied Technologies Building on the Scottsbluff Campus.
"We wanted to offer this class on Saturdays to encourage participation for those who have busy schedules, want to learn a new hobby, or who perhaps want to steer towards a new career," said Pontarolo.
At the conclusion of the class, participants will have earned three college credits that can count toward the Basic Welding Certificate. Participants can continue to work towards that certificate by taking Gas Metal Arc, and Flux Cored Arc welding classes that will also be offered on Saturdays starting in January 2023.
