Alliance, NE – On April 4, 2025, at approximately 12:22 PM, officers with the Alliance Police Department responded to a report of a stolen firearm involving a juvenile suspect.
A citizen of Alliance, informed officers that a juvenile male had allegedly stolen a handgun. The citizen advised they had given a juvenile a ride to a local apartment complex approximately two weeks ago. A recent check of his pickup indicated that a firearm that was stored under the rear seat of the pickup truck was missing. The citizen indicated that the firearm was fully loaded at the time of the theft.
Following this information, Sgt. LaDuke, SRO Sherlock and Officer Gomez began to investigate this incident. This led officers to the residence of the juvenile. Consent to search the juvenile’s bedroom was granted by both the juvenile and residence owner.
During the search, officers located a Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun under the juvenile’s bed. The firearm matched the description provided by the citizen and was identified by them as being theirs.
The juvenile was taken into custody and charges related to theft and unlawful possession of a firearm are pending. The juvenile was detained and transported to the juvenile detention facility in Norfolk, NE.
The Alliance Police Department would like to remind all firearm owners of the critical importance of proper firearm storage. Storing firearms in secure, locked containers or using cable or trigger locks can prevent unauthorized access, especially by children or unauthorized individuals. Firearms should always be unloaded when not in use, and ammunition stored separately in a secure location.
