Joyce Elaine Lawrence, 83, went on to be with the Lord on Monday, July 6, 2020 at Bryan Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Joyce was born on May 8, 1937 to William “Bill” and Genevieve Waldron in Alliance, Nebraska. She was the oldest of four siblings, Steve (Sandy) Waldron, John (Susan) Waldron, Judy (Larry) DeWeese.
She married the love of her life, Dale Lawrence on July 17, 1957 in San Diego, California where they lived in a small one room apartment while Dale served in the Navy. From their union they had three children: Michael (Laura) Lawrence of Lincoln, NE, Laurie (Clayton) Tomjack of Wahoo, NE, David (Paula) Lawrence of Columbus, NE.
Joyce was employed at Alliance Public Schools for 22 years as a lunch lady.
Joyce loved cheering on Husker athletics, no matter what sport it was, sending cards to all of her family and friends, winning games of Skip-Bo, and her grandchildren: Katie, William, Jenna, Matthew, Nathan, Kelsey, Kristen and Alex. Christmas was her favorite holiday of which she celebrated year-round. She enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren with gifts and decorating for the season.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be Saturday, July 11 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Alliance with Reverend Jay Kim officiating. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Bates-Gould Chapel on Friday, July 10 from 4:30 – 7:00 p.m.
Memorials may be given in care of the family for a future designation and may be sent to Laurie Tomjack at 1309 N. Sycamore, Wahoo, NE 68066 or directly to St. Jude’s hospital, Shriners Hospital, or Omaha Children’s Hospital.
