Paul D. Zysset, 84, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 8, 2022 at the Hemingford Community Care Center.
Paul was born at home in rural Frontier County, Nebraska on October 17, 1937 to Carl C. and Aurie V. (Buker) Zysset. He was the fourth of eight children. He started grade school in a rural school south of Eustis and completed grade school at Hilltop District across from the home place. Paul attended high school at the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture, graduating in 1955.
He married Enid E. Barnes on April 14, 1957 at the United Methodist Church in Curtis, Nebraska. Three children were born to this union.
Paul farmed in Frontier County for seven years before moving to the Sandhills to ranch north of Kilgore in 1964. In 1976 he sold the ranch and moved to Cody where he drove a gas truck and worked on various ranches. In 1978 he purchased the bar in Cody, calling it “Paul’s Place”, and operated it for 13 years before selling it in 1991.
Paul also worked for the Village of Cody for 21 years in various capacities. He was instrumental in getting the Cody Fire Department started and served as chief of the department for 31 years. In 2019, due to failing health and to be near family, he moved to Alliance.
He is survived by his wife, Enid Zysset of Alliance, NE; his children, Monte (Sherri) Zysset of Roca, NE, Angy (Wes) Fancher of Alliance, NE, and Shanda (Randy) Volmer of Loveland, CO. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Evelyn Wolf of Blacksburg, VA, Bonnie Herrick of North Platte, NE, and Lorene Raburn of Cambridge, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Mervin and Kenny, and his sisters, Janice and Ruth.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 20, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at the Cody Village Park. Rev. Dr. Gideon Achi will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Prairie Lawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Cody Village Park and sent in care of the family at, 2714 Cheyenne Lane, Alliance, Nebraska, 69301.
