Joan C. Schmidt, 73, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2026 at her home.
She was born August 9, 1952 in Grand Island, NE to John and Christine (Goodwin) Weick.
On August 14, 1968 she was united in marriage to Duane E. Schmidt at Central City, Nebraska.
Joan worked in housekeeping at McCarroll’s Motel for 21 years. Along with her husband they worked with the Disabled American Veteran s in Alliance for many years.
She is survived by her husband, Duane, her children, Carol (Anthony) DuBray of Alliance, Virginia Schmidt of Grand Island, NE and Jolene Schmidt of Lincoln, NE. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Victor DuBray, Harry DuBray, Preston DuBray and Azaiah Whirlwind Horse. She is also survived by her sisters and brothers, Mary Michaelson of Austell, GA, Mike Wieck of Alda, NE, Margaret Ann Michaelson of Grand Island, John Henry Wieck of Carrollton, GA and James Holz of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Joseph Wieck, her sister, Rose Wieck and a granddaughter, Samantha Richards.
A visitation will be Thursday, April 23 from 4-6 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home. Following cremation, memorial services will be held at a later date.
