
Edwin E. Rhoads, 81, of Alliance, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 5, 2026 at his home with family at his bedside.
Edwin was born January 21, 1945 in Houston, Texas. Shortly thereafter, his family moved to Chadron, Nebraska, where he grew up on Dead Horse Creek. He attended college in Chadron, Nebraska, and after graduating, moved with his family to Alliance, Nebraska, where he lived the remainder of his life.
Edwin met his beloved wife, Sharon Rhoads, and they were married on March 18, 1967. They shared 59 years of marriage.
Edwin taught fifth grade for Alliance City Schools for many years. He became fondly known to his students as “Mr. Toads,” a nickname that reflected the affection and respect they had for him.
He loved attending his grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s sporting events, hunting and fishing, and spending time talking with his many friends.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Rhoads of Alliance, Nebraska; daughters, Tabetha Garza (Simon) of Alliance, Nebraska, and Kodee Wignall of Gering, Nebraska; grandchildren, Ashley Peterson of Alliance, Anthony Garza (Mandy) of North Platte, Nebraska, Alisha Hernandez (Jake) of Alliance, Aaron Garza of Alliance, Andrew Garza (Davina) of Alliance, and Shane Wignall (Makinley) of Alliance; 14 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Anita Rhoads of Rapid City, South Dakota.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin E. Rhoads and Anita M. (Lewis) Rhoads, and his brother, Ralph Rhoads of Lincoln, Nebraska.
Per Ed’s request, no funeral will be held. There will be a graveside service and burial at a later date.
