David H. Shaw, 75, passed away Sunday, January 30, 2022 at Box Butte General Hospital.
He was born on May 2, 1946 in Alliance to Raymond and Ella (Hudson) Shaw.
On June 22, 1966 he was united in marriage to Marilyn M. Schramek in Hot Springs, SD.
David was a hardworking man over the years, he did everything from ranch work to truck driver until he retired in 2010. There are not too many people left in the world that represent what he stood for. He was a true man of his word and took responsibility for his decisions and actions whether they were good or bad. He had the grit and demeanor to back up the words he said. David loved his wife, and family first and foremost. He always said that a movie isn’t worth watching if John Wayne wasn’t in it. David truly epitomized the American cowboy, and he was the John Wayne figure in our lives.
David is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn Shaw of Alliance NE, his children, Jeanna (Thomas) Schultz of Alliance, Patricia “Trish” (Robert) Byrd of Riverside, CA, Julie Schmidt of Stevenson, CA and Justin Schmidt of Farmington, CA. He has 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brother, Gene Shaw of Alliance and his sister Ellarae Watson of Show Low, Arizona.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Carl, his sister-in-law, Frances Shaw and his brother-in-law Gary Watson.
Visitation will be Saturday, February 5 from 1-3 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home. Cremation will follow and a graveside service at the Lakeside Cemetery will be at a later date.
