OGALLALA - Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska is over the moon about the recent launch of NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope.

This incredible development deserves a celebration, and Girl Scouts is making it happen. Webb is the largest and most complex space science telescope ever built – the premier observatory of the next decade. This international mission, led by NASA in collaboration with the European and Canadian space agencies, launched in December 2021.

Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska is partnering with NASA to host a celebration of the James Webb Telescope launch in Chadron.

Join us for an official NASA Webb Community Event on January 29 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, 450 Bordeaux St.

The activities in store are out of this world. Hear from astronomy experts, learn about NASA’s current missions and how the Webb Telescope will change our understanding of the universe, create fun projects to take home and more.

Girl Scouts aren’t the only ones who get this neat experience, the fun-filled morning is free and open to the public. Youth must attend with adults.

“We are thrilled that Girl Scouts is an official host for NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope community events,” said Kat Tedder, Girl Scout Spirit of Nebraska program specialist. “People of all ages and backgrounds will find inspiration in the Webb mission.”

The new telescope is expected to provide views of the first galaxies that formed about 13.5 billion years ago, provide insight into how our universe was formed and help scientists uncover secrets of distant universes.
