CHADRON –Elijah Myles is the October Project Strive/TRiO Student of the Month. Myles, a senior from Hawthorne, California, said he chose Chadron State College because he had the opportunity to play football while attending college.

While the football scholarship is what helped him choose CSC, he said he has learned to love the community and the change of weather that western Nebraska brings.

Myles is an Exercise Science major with a minor in Business Marketing. After graduating, Myles plans to return to the West Coast and find a successful physical therapy program while attending graduate school. Physical therapy is important to Myles, who suffered a shoulder injury, because a physical therapist worked with him so he could return to the football team. Prior to Myles’ shoulder injury, he said he always pictured himself in the business world.

Myles’ favorite class is Business Marketing with Terrie Wood because he has learned many key factors that could assist him with developing his own business.

Family and Consumer Science Assistant Professor Dr. Erin Norman appreciates Myles’ kindness and ability to get along with others.

“He is an energetic student who sets a wonderful example of kindness and respect for others. I love having a student who isn’t afraid to say what everyone else is thinking,” Norman said.

Wood also recognizes Myles for his positive personality.

“Elijah always showed up, with a smile and eagerness to learn. He’s a joy to have in class,” Wood said.

Jennifer Schaer, director of TRiO, commented about Myles’ personality and work ethic.

“Since Elijah was a freshman, he has been very active in Project Strive. He comes to events and helps to promote the program to new students. Elijah has embraced the college experience and has truly loved his experience at CSC. He will graduate in May and plans to attend graduate school. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for him,” Schaer said.

When Myles is not in class or busy with the football team, he enjoys making R&B music, working, and taking photographs.
