The Western Conference One-Act Play Contest was held November 13 at the Alliance High School Performing Arts Center. The 6 Conference schools performed in front of a 3 Judge panel. Following the performances, Chadron was named Western Conference Champion, Mitchell and Alliance tied for 2nd in rankings, with Mitchell finishing in 2nd place on Judge's points, over Alliance who finished 3rd--163 to 162 points. Scottsbluff finished 4th, Gering 5th and Sidney 6th.
Chadron's Championship One-Act Play was titled... "Crimes at the Old Brewery". Mitchell's runner up One-Act was titled..."We are the Sea". Alliance performed.."Nothing Says I Love You, Like Bad Poetry".
Alliance also received a Superior rating from all 3 judges. AHS performers Mario Rodriguez, Sierra Banks, Christian Soriano, Sonya Behrends and Ann Ryan were recognized with Outstanding Performance Awards.
Chadron, Alliance, Gering and Sidney, along with McCook, Gothenburg, Aurora and Valentine, advance to the B-6 District competition on December 4 at Gothenburg High School. Mitchell, Bayard and Gordon-Rushville will compete in the C1-6 District on December 1 at North Platte High School. Scottsbluff will compete in the Class A-3 District at Lincoln High School on December 4. Bridgeport will compete in the C1-5 District, December 3 at Wood River High School. Kimball, Morrill and Hemingford will compete in the C2-6 District, at Southwest High School November 29. Minatare, Leyton and Garden County will compete in the D1-6 District in North Platte, November 30. Hyannis, Sioux County, Hay Springs, Potter-Dix and Banner County will compete in the D2-6 District at Creek Valley High School December 1. The District Champions advance to the State One-Act Contest at the Johnny Carson Theatre in Norfolk, Ne. Class D1 and D2 will be Wednesday December 8. Class C1 and C2, Thursday December 9 and Class A and B, Friday December 10.
The Alliance One-Act team will do a public performance on Tuesday, November 30, 7 pm, at the Alliance Performing Arts Center. There will be a small admission fee which will go to help cover travel expenses. All are welcome to attend. The AHS One-Act is directed by Mary Theresa Green, Assistant Director, Aaron Behrends. Cast members are...Christian Soriano, Carlie Schneider, Haden Karell, Mario Rodriguez, Sierra Banks, Donna LeMunyan, Sonya Behrends, Kailie Stone, McKenna Ruffing, Ann Ryan. Light Board Operator, Braydon Vrbka.
