Lawrence “Nico” Munoz, 51, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home and surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, following a short battle with liver cancer.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, January 29, 2024, at the VFW building in Gering, Nebraska with Pastor Cliff Transmeier officiating. Nico was born February 23, 1972, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Martin and Juanita (Hernandez) Munoz, the baby of eight siblings. He attended Gering Public Schools.
He was united in marriage to Amanda Vandermate, his “Babes”, on January 16, 2004. Nico made a living providing for his children and family with various jobs in the Scottsbluff-Gering area. He worked for many years doing construction alongside the late, Tony Marez, who he lovingly called “Pops”. He also held positions in customer service during his work history.
Nico enjoyed golfing, fishing, pool, and poker. He played softball for a long-time creating relationships with friends who became family. He also liked having beers with his friends. He was close with his “Brew Crew”, Sis, Bert, and Ben. They were always together. He was known to “cruise” Wal-Mart for fun and was always the life of the party. He truly never knew a stranger. Family was of most importance to Nico, and he cherished every opportunity for family time. He was always up for watching movies with the grandbabies, just never a scary movie, unless “maybe” with the lights on! He was a family man, supporting his kids and grandkids in all their sports and activities.
Nico could be stubborn and onery, but was also charismatic, loving, loyal, and generous. He was a leader and confident, qualities that made him someone others could rely on no matter what the situation.
