ARTHUR COUNTY, Neb.-School officials in Arthur County are making some changes on the fly after reporting a large number of absences.
The district released the following statement on Thursday:
On Wednesday Jan 19, 39% of our Elementary students were absent, and 22% of our high school students were absent. Our health department has been consulted and has approved this plan to help mitigate the situation. We are taking the following precautions and disinfecting our school buildings to help minimize continued spread of illness.
Our K-6 elementary students will remain out of school until Wednesday January 26.
Arthur County High School will conduct classes through e-learning or Virtual Learning days on Monday Jan 24 and Tuesday Jan 25 for students in grades 7-12. Students will check in with their teachers online any time between 8 AM and 3:45 on those days. Teachers will be at the school and available online for any questions.
Students will be able to report to our buildings in person on Wednesday January 26, assignments are due on Wednesday when they return to the building.
If you have a 7-12 student who is absent today you will need to make arrangements to pick up their chromebook and other materials needed from school. If a brother or sister can bring items home we will send them with them or you can call the office at (308) 764-2253 to make arrangements to pick up what they need.
All conference activities are still going forward and our students will participate.
Please continue to monitor your students, for fever, sore throat, chest congestion and runny nose. Keep them home if they are ill. We are hopeful that by doing these things and reinforcing measures for handwashing and spacing will help us get through this time.
