Bill Scott Rask (1959 - 2024)

Bill Scott Rask, 64 of Scottsbluff, Nebraska entered into rest on Thursday May 16, 2024 after a prolonged battle with COPD, despite undergoing a double lung transplant in October 2023 and facing numerous challenges the past 8 months, Bill showed incredible strength and perseverance until the very end. His courage and determination were evident to those who were close to him.

Bill was born on July 17, 1959 at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, California to Shirley (Babka) and Bill Rask. He was the eldest of 3 siblings.

Bill graduated from Gering High School in 1977 and went on to work as a Mechanic for BNSF. After he left the railroad, Bill owned and operated Rask Auto Body, where he restored and rebuilt countless cars, until he was diagnosed with COPD.

Bill was known for his dedication to the things he was passionate about, his hard work ethic, and his love for fast cars, Rock & Roll, and a night spent at the racetrack. On Sundays, you could find Bill at home, watching NASCAR, or “The Race”, as he called it.

Among his many accomplishments in life, Bill considered his greatest achievement to be his son Billie. Billie provided unwavering support and cared for Bill during and after his lung transplant and despite the circumstances, Bill truly cherished every minute, of every day he and Billie spent together.

Bill is survived by his son Billie (Kiersten) Rask of Scottsbluff, stepson Nicholas Fikar. His brother Troy (Heather) Rask of Gering, NE, nephews Tyler, Brody (Stephanie) Rask of Gering, NE, Skylar (Samantha) Rask of Scottsbluff, NE, cousin Jennifer Hiatt and numerous great nieces and nephews and countless friends who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed by all who were lucky to have met him.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Shirley Rask, his sister Roxane Marie Rask, grandparents William and Mollie Rask, Alfred and Dorothy Babka, and Aunt Rogene Hiatt, stepdaughter Ashley Fikar.

A graveside memorial services will be held on May 24, 2024 at 10:30 at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering, Nebraska with Pastor Ed Hunzeker officiating. Fond memories and condolences may be left at www.dugankramer.com. Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.
