Sidney, Neb. — In response to a recent hoax call that impacted the Sidney School District, local law enforcement agencies are taking additional steps to strengthen emergency preparedness and coordination.
The Sidney Police Department and Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office announced they will conduct a joint training exercise on Monday, March 30, aimed at improving their response to potential threats. Officials say the move comes after a successful but reflective response to the recent incident.
While authorities noted they were proud of how quickly personnel acted, they emphasized a continued commitment to improvement and preparedness.
The upcoming training will take place at both Sidney High School and Sidney Middle School. Students will not be present during the exercise.
Community members can expect to see a large presence of law enforcement vehicles and emergency responders at both locations throughout the day. School district staff will also participate, working alongside first responders to strengthen a coordinated, unified response.
Officials say the exercise is part of a broader effort to expand specialized training across all schools in the community. Each campus presents unique challenges, and agencies say they are focused on ensuring every student and staff member is supported by a well-prepared safety plan.
Law enforcement leaders say they are using lessons learned from recent events to build a safer environment for students, faculty, and the Sidney community as a whole.
Authorities thanked the public for their continued support and understanding as these efforts move forward.
