Work on Old Oregon Trail Road Makes Detour at Scotts Bluff National Monument

GERING, Neb. – Road construction to repair damaged sections of Old Oregon Trail Road east of Scotts Bluff National Monument will necessitate the use of a detour to access Scotts Bluff National Monument, including the Summit Road and Visitor Center. Starting at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 26th, Old Oregon Trail will be closed from West Lawn Cemetery to the monument entrance. This closure is expected to be in place through Friday, Aug. 29th.

Visitors will still be able to access the monument from the west. From the intersection of Five Rocks Road and Old Oregon Trail, visitors should travel north on Five Rocks Road for 2.4 miles to Beltline Highway. Make a left onto Beltline Highway. Follow Beltline Highway for 1.6 miles to Nebraska Highway 92. At NE 92 turn left. Follow NE 92 west for 2.1 miles to Old Oregon Trail. Make a left onto Old Oregon Trail and travel 3.2 miles to the visitor center parking lot entrance.
