Larry P. Schnell (1946 - 2023)

Larry P. Schnell, 77, formerly of Alliance passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at Bryan West Medical Center in Lincoln, NE.

He was born on July 31, 1946, to Pete and Betty (Nuss) Schnell in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Larry grew up in Alliance, Nebraska, where he attended District 2 Country School through the eighth grade and graduated from Alliance High School with the class of 1964. He then attended Chadron State College earning his Bachelor's Degree in Education in 1970. After teaching industrial arts and coaching the wrestling team for Hemingford High School until 1973, Larry began his farming career, retiring in 2011.

Larry married Pamela Fillmore on October 23, 1968, in Chadron, Nebraska. They had three children, Michael, Becky, and Cathy. Larry was a lifelong member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Alliance where he served as an elder.

Larry was a member of the Dry Bean Growers Association Board and was recognized by Great Western Sugar Company as a top producer of sugar beets multiple times. During his years of farming in the Alliance area he raised sugar beets, dry beans, corn, hay, and wheat.  Larry also raised cattle and hogs.

Larry enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents Pete and Betty; his in-laws Walt and Jane Fillmore, his brother Kenny; his sister Judy Swesey; and his brothers-in-law Mike Sorensen, Jerry Swesey, Jim Shannon, and Tim Downey.

Larry’s survivors include his wife Pamela, his son Michael (Michelle), his daughters Becky (John) Maser and Cathy (Alfred) Fingar, his grandchildren Sofia Fox, Kyson, Kylen, and Walter Schnell, AJ (Britni) and Nick (Sierra) Maser, and Nathen (Sterling) and Jacob Fingar.  He is also survived by three brothers, Paul (Brenda), Roy (Vonda), and Steve Schnell, and three sisters, Linda Shannon, Peggy Schnell, and Nancy Sorensen, in-laws Ruth (Mack) Rawhouser, Nancy Downy, John (Debbie) Fillmore, Mary Fillmore, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be Friday, September 15 at 10:00 a.m. at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Alliance with inurnment in the church columbarium.
