HEMINGFORD, Neb. — As excitement builds for the 100th annual Box Butte County Fair, organizers are putting out a call to the community for help—both in participation and volunteer support.
The deadline to enter Open Class exhibits is Monday, Aug. 4, and fair officials are encouraging residents of all ages to showcase their talents. Categories include baking, canning, photography, quilting, woodworking, needlework and more.
"Open Class is a longtime tradition that highlights the creativity and pride of Box Butte County," said Taylor Keegan, volunteer coordinator.
"We’d love to see more entries this year to celebrate the fair’s centennial."
In addition to Open Class entries, volunteers and donations are urgently needed for the Diorama food booth, one of the fair’s most beloved stops. The booth, which serves homemade meals and pies during the fair, helps fund the popular Diorama holiday display enjoyed by the entire community each winter.
“We’re in desperate need of volunteers to help in the kitchen and at the counter during fair week, and we’re also asking for pie donations,” said Carolyn Adams, another volunteer coordinator.
“It’s a great way to give back and keep a cherished local tradition alive.”
Those interested in entering Open Class or volunteering at the Diorama food booth can find details on the Box Butte County Fair Facebook page or by texting Carolyn 303-907-7970 or calling Cindy 308-760-9980.
