William “Bill” A. Marchant (1941 - 2021)

William “Bill” A. Marchant, 80, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2021 at Skyview Care and Rehab in Bridgeport, Nebraska.  

Bill was born January 5, 1941 at his Grandparents’ home south of Chadron, Nebraska to Arthur (Bruse) and Catherine (Jordan) Marchant.

He graduated from Assumption Academy High School in Chadron, in 1958.

On August 20, 1964 he was united in marriage to Jean Christensen in Chadron.

Bill received his Bachelor and Master Degrees of Science in Education at Chadron State College.  He also completed courses at La Salle Extension University, Brigham Young University, Brown University, Yale University, South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, Kansas State University, and University of Wyoming.

Bill taught 2 years at Venango, 38 years in Alliance, and 9 years at Western Nebraska Community College.  He also worked at the Alliance Post Office for 25 years while he was teaching in Alliance.  While living in Alliance, he was a member of the Eagles Club, the American Legion Club, the Elks Club, Holy Rosary Catholic Church, a board member of the Box Butte Public Employee Credit Union, and a board member of Panhandle Trails Intercity Public Transit.  Bill was awarded the ACS Outstanding High School Chemistry Teacher in 1993.  He also took great pride in his yard and received many Yard of the Week and Yard of the Year Awards.  

He is survived by his wife, Jean, of Alliance; his daughters, Kim (Jeff) Metz of Angora, and Tori Marchant of Scottsbluff; his two grandsons that he was so proud of, Dillon and Logan Metz of Angora; brothers Bob Marchant of Chadron, Don (Laurie) Marchant of Kaw City, Oklahoma; sister Norene (Steve) Jensen of Gering; two brothers-in-law, Bob Olson of Alliance, and Melvin Christensen of Chadron; many special nieces and nephews, Cindi Nielsen, Jodi Sutphen, Amy Varner, Christi Glenn, Brad Olson, Daniel Marchant, Bill Christensen, Brian Fisher, Matt Jensen and Mark Jensen; and his two cats, Missy and Louie.  He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Bill and Ruth Christensen, sister-in-laws Marge Olson and Dolores Christensen, and an infant brother Dennis.

Memorial services will be Thursday, May 27, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Alliance, with Father Tim Stoner officiating.  The family requests casual attire.  Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery.  

Memorials may be given to PAWS in Alliance or the Bridgeport High School Track Program in Bridgeport Nebraska.
