
Gertrude Louise Potmesil, 97, passed away on Friday, October 10, 2025 in Greeley, CO where she had resided for the last 3 years. Gertrude (Gertie) was born on July 31, 1928 to Carl and Monica (Ruffing) Erny in Alliance, NE. She attended Alliance schools and graduated from Alliance High School in 1946. She enjoyed attending a variety of adult education classes throughout her life in many different areas.
She married William J. (Bill) Potmesil on October 30, 1947, residing on the family ranch and then the family farm north of Alliance.
She was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Alliance.
Gardening and her flower beds were her pride and joy, a showcase to those who drove by or stopped to visit. She loved putting up outside Christmas lights and decoration for all to see.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bill Potmesil, brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Peg Erny, sister and brother-in-law, Thelma and Emmett Foley, brother-in-law, Jim and Polly Potmesil, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Cleo and Burns Landrum, brother-in-law, Gene Potmesil, and son-in-law, Steve Snyder.
Surviving her are her son, John (Elaine) of Alliance, and grandchildren: Lark Potmesil of Alliance, NE and Melinda (Eric Ferguson) of St. Louis, MO. Her daughter, Connie Snyder, of Stockton, KS and grandchildren: Taakka (Rick) Belcher of Peyton, CO, and Stephanie Snyder of Stockton, KS and great-Grandchildren: Jacob Belcher, Misty Mann, Stormy Belcher and Great-Great-Grandchildren Kulua Mann, Jr. and Eliana Mann. Her daughter, Sharon (Warren) Sokol of Fort Collins, CO and grandchildren: Michelle Sokol and Kelly Sokol of Loveland, CO, Nicole Sokol (Chester Rubbo) of Greenwood Village, CO. And her son, William Charles (Chip) Potmesil (Cris Swanson) of Robinson, Il and grandsons: Ben of Ocala, FL and Tim Potmesil of Verona, WI. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Agnes Academy, 1104 Cheyenne in Alliance or Carnegie Art Center, 204 W. 4th St in Alliance.
Funeral services will be Friday, October 17 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Alliance Cemetery. A wake service will be Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
