The Box Butte General Hospital Board of Trustees wishes to inform you of an important leadership transition at our hospital. Lori Mazanec, who has served as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) since 2016 and has been on medical leave since March of this year, will not be returning to her role. Lori’s contract as CEO will expire at the end of November 2025 and will not be renewed. Lori has been a valued member of the BBGH family since 2001, and we are deeply grateful for her dedication and the positive impact she has made throughout her tenure.

Lori’s leadership has been instrumental in fostering a Culture of Excellence at BBGH and in expanding services to ensure high-quality care is available close to home. Her unwavering commitment to our mission, vision, and values will continue to guide us as we move forward. As we navigate this transition, the Board remains steadfast in our commitment to leading and innovating in healthcare delivery and community wellness. Our vision—to be the greatest place to receive care, work and practice medicine—remains unchanged.

While there is a change in leadership, our dedication to serving our patients, staff and community with the highest standards will not waver. Dr. Brian Shelmadine has been serving as Interim CEO since June 12, 2025, and will continue in this role for the foreseeable future. Together, we will honor Lori’s legacy by building on the strong foundation she helped establish and by striving for continuous improvement in all that we do.

We are sincerely grateful for Lori’s leadership and years of service to Box Butte General Hospital and the greater Alliance community. On behalf of everyone at BBGH, we thank her for her many contributions and wish her the very best.

Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to Box Butte General Hospital.
