An Oregon, Missouri teenager drowned in the Missouri River this weekend after coming to the aid of his brother.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports 18-year-old Alexander Harris went under the water and didn't resurface after coming to the aid of a younger man struggling in the water.

The patrol reports Harris and the other boy were swimming in the Missouri River Saturday afternoon about a half mile north of Payne’s Landing in Holt County.

A Facebook post from the family stated Harris kept his younger brother afloat until his mother could save him.

The Holt County Coroner pronounced Harris dead at the scene.
