Elmer Krause, age 95, of Scottsbluff passed away Thursday December 7, 2023 at home surrounded by family. Memorial services will be held at West Way Christian Church, 1701 West 27th, Scottsbluff, Nebraska December 21 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Joe Peterson officiating. Elmer was born February 28, 1929, in Lyman Nebraska.
He grew up in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, and joined the Navy in 1945, serving on the USS Waine Wright. He participated in the Joint Task Force One Operation Crossroads and was ordered by Joint Chiefs of Staff to test the effect of the Atomic Bomb on naval vessels conducted at Bikini Atoll, Marshall Islands in the Pacific. Elmer was Honorably discharged in November of 1947.
He married Arleen (Cross) at Bridgeport, Nebraska May 1, 1948, and the couple made their first home in Bayard, Nebraska. There, he worked for the Bayard Sugar Company and Blue Jay Feeds until moving to Scottsbluff in 1963. He also worked for Panhandle Co-Op until his retirement in 1986.
Survivors include his wife, Arleen (They were married for 75 loving years); 3 Sons and 1 Daughter: Daniel Krause (married to Ester Krause) of Debary Florida, Elmer Krause (married to Vicki Krause) of Deland Florida, Edward Krause (married to Bonnie Krause) of Gering, Nebraska, Diana Chapman (Krause)(married to Dwaine Chapman) of Mitchell, Nebraska; and 1 Brother, William Pfenning of York, Nebraska; as well as numerous nieces and nephews; Grandchildren: Shawn Krause of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Dawn Chapman of Fort Laramie, Wyoming, Douglas Krause (married to Teresa Krause) of Deland, Florida, Cherish (Scott) Lienemann of North Platte, Nebraska, Cory Chapman (married to Jaclyn Chapman) of Yoder, Wyoming, Robyne Saner (married to Justin Saner) of Salina Kansas, Sarah Bell (married to Daniel Bell) of Alliance, Nebraska;11 Great-Grandchildren; and 6 Great-Great-Grandchildren.
Elmer is preceded by Henry & Katherine (Shaneman) Krause; a sister, Lillian; 2 Brothers, Alfred and Curtis; Grandson, Daniel (Danny) Krause; and niece, Joyce Haas.
