On July 3rd, 2021, Dorothy Conner passed away at Pioneer Manor in Hay Springs. She was 98 years old.
She was born into a loving, lively family in the Sandhills south of Gordon and attended Gordon High School. Dorothy married Martin Conner on 3 July 1941 and raised their 1st son while teaching school during his WW II service. After Martin returned from service, he worked at the Saults ranch where Dorothy taught school and raised her family.
Dorothy was always active in the community; she was a member of the United Methodist Church in Gordon, the Willow Tree Quilt guild, R.S.V.P. (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program), American Legion Auxiliary and the Princess Rebekah Lodge #65. She also taught at rural schools in Cherry and Sheridan counties, attended Chadron Community College, and was a rural mail carrier. In her spare time, she liked to garden, paint, do crafts, read, and travel.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Mabel Johns, and her husband Martin, her brothers Orvis and Fred, and sisters Mary and Mildred. She is survived by her two sons, James (Dottie) and Dan (Kathy); her grandchildren Clifford, James, Alice, Suzanne, Josh, Alicia, and Kaci; her great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
The family will be having a visitation on Friday July 9th, 6 PM at the Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home, 101 N. Main St, Gordon, NE with a service on Sat. July 10, 2021, at 10:00 AM in the United Methodist Church, 211 W. 2nd St. and graveside service at Gordon Cemetery to follow.
The family suggests memorials in Dorothy’s name to the Gordon Public Library, Gordon Memorial Hospital, the Willow Tree Quilters or the Donor’s choice. Donations may be sent in care of Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home, PO Box 366, Gordon, NE 69343.
