GERING, Neb. – Martin Gilmore is scheduled to present his program The History of the American West Through Song on Friday, July 17 at 7:00 p.m. at the Scotts Bluff National Monument Visitor Center Amphitheater located at 190276 Old Oregon Trail in Gering, NE.
Join Martin Gilmore for a musical journey where he will present traditional and original folk songs connected to the history and landscape of the American West. Through acoustic performance and brief historical background between songs, the program highlights how music has long been used as a form of storytelling and record-keeping by people living and traveling in the region. The songs illustrate experiences associated with westward movement, settlement, work, and daily life, drawing from different moments and settings in the history of the West. Together, they demonstrate how music helped preserve stories, traditions, and memories connected to the land.
This presentation is made possible through the generous support of Black Hills Parks and Forests Association, the official non-profit partner of Scotts Bluff National Monument.
