Ruben Eugene (Gene) Siegfried, age 83, passed away peacefully at home on June 13, 2024. Gene was born on May 3, 1941, in the family home in Gering, Nebraska, to parents Mollie (Reifschneider) Siegfried and Ruben Siegfried.
Gene leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work and dedication. He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Patricia (Acker) Siegfried. He was a proud father to his three sons from his first marriage: James Siegfried of Scottsbluff, Steven Siegfried of Rochester Hills, Michigan, and Gerald (Jami) Siegfried of Aurora, Colorado. He was also a devoted stepfather to Janelle (Chuck) Schroeder of Gering and Becky (Tom) Horne of Scottsbluff.
Gene had a career as a government-certified welder for Lockwood Corporation, dedicating 25 years of his life to his craft. His talents extended beyond his professional life, showcasing a myriad of hobbies including drag racing, hunting, fishing, coin collecting, R.C. airplanes, and astronomy. He was an avid rockhound, outdoorsman and a proud member of organizations including NRA, Eagles, Elks, Scottsbluff Timing Association, West Nebraska Sportsman’s Association, Audubon Society, and the Panhandle Rock Club.
Known for his caring, quiet, and kind nature, Gene found joy in the simple pleasures post-retirement, especially spending time with his coffee group and enjoying hunting and fishing outings with his sons and grandsons. He cherished following his grandchildren to their numerous activities and celebrating their achievements.
Gene is also survived by his grandchildren: Alyssa Zwickl, Gage Siegfried, Kyle Schroeder, Trey Zwickl, Hunter Siegfried, Sophie Siegfried, Painsley Siegfried, and Blakely Horne. He was loved by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and special extended family Erik and Derik Eckhardt.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents Ruben and Mollie Siegfried, his brother Robert (Bob) Siegfried, and his daughter-in-law Holli Siegfried.
A funeral service in celebration of Gene’s life will be held at 2:30 PM on Monday, June 17, 2024, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Gering. Family and friends are welcome to attend and commemorate the life of a remarkable man who touched many lives. A memorial has been set up in honor of the American Heart Association.
