LINCOLN, Neb.  — The Nebraska State Patrol has asked the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office to investigate a fatal crash that occurred after a motorcycle rider fled an attempted traffic stop on Interstate 80.

At approximately 7:50 p.m. Saturday, a trooper saw a motorcycle speeding on westbound I-80 in Lincoln. The trooper attempted a traffic stop, but the rider refused to yield and accelerated. The rider then continued driving recklessly, posing a danger to other motorists on the road and causing a pursuit to ensue.

The rider weaved through traffic multiple times, drove onto the shoulder and then exited I-80 at mile marker 395. As the motorcycle was exiting I-80, the rider failed to navigate the off-ramp and crashed. The trooper arrived on scene moments later, called for paramedics and attempted life-saving measures. The rider, identified as Jeffery McDonald, 59-years-old, of Malcolm, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Nebraska State Patrol has requested that the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office investigate the crash. The entire pursuit lasted less than three minutes.
