Overall crime has gone down in Alliance in the last couple of years according to data released by the Alliance Police Department and a report in March that included Alliance as a top ten safest city in Nebraska.

However, motor vehicle thefts are on the rise according to Alliance Police Officer Tyler Sherlock.

"This year we've seen an influx of motor vehicle thefts, and that's primarily due to people leaving their cars unlocked with their keys inside, making it a crime of opportunity," Sherlock said.

Sherlock says that the best way to keep yourself safe from crime is to make yourself a hard target and that includes having a list of your personal items in case they are lost and stolen and making sure to lock all house, shed and car doors.

If you have any questions or need to report a crime, call the Alliance Police Department at 308-762-4955, Crimestoppers at 308-762-3181, and in case of an emergency dial 911.
