SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb.  — The Western Nebraska Community College Scottsbluff Campus reopened at 10 a.m. after temporarily closing due to a law enforcement response involving an individual who claimed to have a firearm.

Law enforcement has detained the individual and given the all clear. No injuries have been reported at this time.

At approximately 3:40 a.m., WNCC campus security alerted law enforcement after an individual attempted to enter a WNCC vehicle. Officers responded, and the individual climbed onto the roof of the Applied Technology building while claiming to have a firearm. Law enforcement agencies from throughout the county responded to the scene and took the individual into custody. The individual was transported to the hospital at approximately 9:10 a.m.

"Thank you to our local law enforcement agencies and fire departments for their swift response and dedication to keeping our students, employees and community safe," said WNCC President Greg Dart.

WNCC will continue to work with law enforcement on any further investigations into the incident.
