Alliance – Welcome to an exciting school year with many learning opportunities for children and youth at the Alliance Public Library. Aug. 23 through Sept. 30, there will be a “School Days” Reading Challenge.
Kindergarten through fifth grade can submit an entry form for each school-related book that they read in their reading level; their prize is a Stencil Art Kit.
Grades 6-12 can submit an entry form for any book they read in their reading level with Starbucks gift cards for their prizes, one $15 card for Grades 6-8 and one $15 card for Grades 9-12.
Please remember that all books must be checked out from the Alliance Public Library to be entered in the drawings, with prizes courtesy of the Alliance Public Library Foundation. Our children’s and juvenile sections are updated with new Accelerated Reader (AR) levels to assist in your search. Prize drawings will be Thursday, Sept. 30 at 3 pm.
Youth Book Club for grades 3 through 6 meets on Tuesday, Aug. 24 at 4:30 in the Community Room to share “The Mouse and the Motorcycle” by Beverly Cleary, a special remembrance and celebration of her life! Next month, we meet Sept. 28 at 4:30 pm to discuss “I Survived the Attacks of September 11, 2001” by Lauren Tarshis. If you haven’t read the book, you can still come and listen to the book discussion. Books are available for checkout at the Circulation Desk with no charge since these are book kits from the Nebraska Library Commission.
